Ange-ThologyBy Ange Frymire Settle in for an evening of hilarity at Granville Island's Waterfront Theatre with the smash hit, Menopositive! The Musical. J.J. McColl's brilliant script portrays four women in their mid-50's who tackle the menopausal meaning of life. The result is two hours of gut-wrenching comedy with some tender, thought-provoking moments and the zany performance of Patricia Dahlquist, Susinn McFarlen, Candace O'Connor and Ann Warn Pegg. O'Connor is the weakest of the four, but her character grows stronger throughout Act 2. Pegg is a squeal of delight with one hell of a powerful singing voice. The profanity written into the script is a tasteful outpouring of comedic expletives and actually endears the audience to the characters. The predominantly-female, middle-aged audience howled in their seats as the characters threw one-liners in succession throughout the night. No wonder the play received a standing ovation. It's an emancipated revelry of sure-fire quick wit and powerful singing, brushed lightly with warm moments of women at their best. Runs to May 2. |
